You could say I was born with masonry in my blood. My father before me, and his father before him, were both masons. My grandfather was even contracted by his hometown of Montella, in the province of Avellino, to maintain all the roads; and in Italy, you can imagine how much cement and stone work that involved.
Flash forward to 1951, when my father arrived in the United States. He and his brother came with little in their pockets but a determination to build a better life. My dad put his masonry skills to work immediately, taking advantage of the construction boom of the time. He worked for a local contractor by day and attended school at night to learn English.
Being the determined man he was, he started his own business in 1963. From there, he thrived, leaving a lasting mark throughout the 70s and 80s on both commercial and residential projects across the area.
During those years, I worked continuously at his side. I started as a young boy doing labor work, and by my mid-teens, I was already a mason. Throughout high school and into college—where I studied business—masonry was the only job I ever had. Working with my father throughout the 80s, I sharpened my skills and gained experience on countless projects across Bergen County and the surrounding towns.
By 1985, my dad, well into his sixties, passed the business on to me. At twenty-five, I found myself running my own masonry company, carving out a niche and building a reputation of my own.
We continue to deliver quality craftsmanship at a fair price, just as my father taught me. He always said that if you do right by people, good things will find their way back to you. I have found that to be one of the true keys to my success.
